Incredibly cheap trick to “shorten” your Claude 5-hour window

I’ve been using this trick for months and honestly thought everyone else was doing it too. But after mentioning it to a friend who looked at me like I’d just discovered fire, I realized: it’s time to share the secret.

The Problem: You sit down to code at 10:00 AM, burn through your messages by 1:00 PM, and now you’re stuck waiting until 3:00 PM for your window to reset.

Gaming the system

Claude’s usage window starts the moment you send your first message. If you know you won’t be at your desk for another two hours, don’t wait until you sit down to start the clock.

  1. The Trigger: When you wake up, hop in the shower, or start your commute, open the Claude app on your phone.

  2. The Action: Just say “Hi.”

  3. The Result: Your 5-hour window starts rolling now.

By the time you actually start working two hours later, you’ve already “shaved” a few hours off your next cooldown period. If you hit your limit, you’ll only have a fraction of the time left to wait instead of the full five hours.

Of course this worked best until 2 weeks ago when Anthropic moved to a rolling window!
